Apple iPad Air review

A clear winner in the large tablet market, and perhaps the best consumer-based tablet ever made

Stunningly thin and light ; Excellent performance ; Great battery life

Increased price ; Speakers easily muffled ; Reflective screen

If you already own a fourth generation iPad the iPad Air certainly isn't an essential upgrade, but for everyone else, this is a clear winner in the large tablet market, and perhaps the best consumer-based tablet ever made.

Editors choice

Apple iPad Air review: Sun and heir

It's been tempting lately to conclude that Apple doesn't have it anymore, and tablets in particular is where Cupertino does need to silence the prophets of doom and gloom after an iPad 4 that was more like a 3.1 and a mini that should've had a retina...

9.7" LED-backlit IPS LCD touchscreen, 1536 x 2048 pixels, ~ 264 ppi; scratch-resistant, oleophobic coating ; Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity with MIMO dual antennas ; LTE connectivity (data only) ; GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS support (for the Cellular...

Non expandable memory ; Price of storage climbs steeply, and storage is largely overpriced ; Tied into iTunes for uploading most of the content ; iOS 7 could've made better use of the bigger screen ; No standard USB port ; No GPS receiver in the...

Remember "thinnovation"? That was Apple's tagline when it first introduced the MacBook Air, a laptop so skinny it could fit in a manila envelope. Six

A7 chip offers fast performance ; Thinner and lighter than before ; Global LTE support ; Long battery life

Touch ID not included ; Retina display is good, but no longer the best

The iPad Air is incredibly thin and light, and it's the most comfortable 10-inch tablet we've used. It also comes with a nice boost in performance while maintaining good battery life.

Can you be productive with a tablet? You betcha, provided you buy the right one.

Ten hours of battery life ; Twice as fast as fourth-generation iPad ; Light and thin

Still too big for long-term one-handed use ; No Touch ID

iPad Air review: The best tablet gets better

It's lighter, thinner, and twice as fast as the previous full-size iPad. What's not to like?

Ten hours of battery life ; Twice as fast as fourth-generation iPad ; Light and thin

Air Worthy

Apple first introduced the “Air” branding scheme in conjunction with its ultra-slim and portable MacBook line back in 2008. The term was meant to connote a laptop that wasn't just lighter, but also uber thin, and able to achieve epic battery life. Now...

Incredibly lightweight with a super-slim, redesigned form factor. A7 chip, in addition to helping provide an impressive 10-plus hours of battery life, offers superb overall performance whether you’re surfing the web or streaming media. 9.7-inch, 2048 x...

No TouchID, just a regular old home button. Despite upgrading to stereo speakers — audio separation remains poor. 5-megapixel rear-facing shooter could use an update

iPad Air review

Let's murder a metaphor. In June of 2010, two months after Apple had shipped the first iPad, Steve Jobs sat on stage with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the D8 conference and compared tablets...

Amazingly thin and light ; Terrific battery life ; Excellent performance ; Class-leading app selection

iOS 7 still glitchy in places ; Gets expensive fast ; Safari icon remains an abomination

The only real competition is the iPad mini with Retina display
