Archos 80 G9 review

Archos debuts Arnova 9 G2 Android tablet, offers Gingerbread on a 9.7-inch IPS displayNokia to release Windows 8 tablets this June, top

Built-in kickstand ; Full-sized USB port ; Long battery life for a tablet this size ; Excellent value

Other Android tablets feel snappier ; No rear-facing camera

How many other $300 tablets run Android 3.2 and come with a kickstand and full-sized USB port? Try as you might, you'll be hard-pressed to get as much bang for your three hundred bucks.

Archos 80 G9 review

Editor's note: As of April 2012, the Archos 80G is upgradable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). For details on the advantages Android 4.0 offers over Honeycomb, check the Android 4.0 section of the Asus Transformer Prime TF201 review.

The lightweight, 8GB Archos 80 G9 tablet runs 1080p video smoothly, and its kickstand is a useful addition.

The tablet is uncomfortable to hold, with disappointing viewing angles and awkward button placement. Its single camera has poor recording quality.

The 8GB Archos 80 G9 delivers a complete Android experience at a low price, but its rough design, low-quality camera, and awkward button placement make it feel rushed to market.

The Archos G9 Tablet Reviews: Fast Enough

The tablet market is dominated, we all know, by Apple. Apple is arguably the lone American success story in the consumer electronics space. All of Apple's serious competition comes from companies outside the US, and nearly all of those are in Asia....

Archos 101 G9

Archos were making "tablets" before the majority of manufacturers had even considered it. It had large screen devices before the birth of the iPad and before Android even existed. Of course they were called portable media players in those days, and it...

Plays pretty much every video format, HDMI, 3G option is inventive

Build quality, design, display, some software foibles, battery issues, failure to play Flash video

Android tablets are something of a minefield. The unique proposition of the Archos tablet is that it delivers the Honeycomb experience at a price that's hard to beat. It also, undoubtedly, offers the widest diversity of format support in any tablet...

ARCHOS 80 G9 Review [Video]

It's time for the G9 series of Android tablets from ARCHOS, a Texas Intstruments OMAP4 dual-core 1GHz processor toting set of unique-looking pieces of hardware set to hit the streets of North America soon. What we've got here is the smaller of the two,...

This is the first Texas Instruments dual-core 1GHz OMAP4 processor-toting Android tablet on the market, and it’s pretty decent. The kickstand, being as large and obviously important as it seems, is a bit of a disappointment as it’s made of plastic and...

Archos 80 G9 review

The Archos 80 G9 is tablet computer running Android 3.2 Honeycomb . It boasts a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of storage and an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen. It's Wi-Fi only, but it will be possible to upgrade it to 3G in the future via a special USB...

Fast performance; Low price; Good connectivity options.

Units affected by screen issues; Plastic casing feels cheap; Still not enough Honeycomb apps available.

An Android Honeycomb tablet with a dual-core processor for under £200 sounds too good to be true, and sadly, it is. While the Archos 80 G9 boasts some fantastic technology, it's let down by shoddy production, which has resulted in a ripple-like screen...

Archos 80 G9 Tablet Review: Fun But Ugly

Short Version: The Archos 80 G9 tablet isn't necessarily something I'd recommend for the hardcore tablet enthusiast, but it certainly gets the job done. Powered by pure Android 3.2 Honeycomb, the tab offers everything you'd expect out of Android and a...

Stock Android install works fine ; Battery life exceeded the amount advertised, which is unheard of/lovely ; HD 1080p video via HDMI-out was an unexpected treat

Really poor build quality ; To put it nicely, it’s not the most gorgeous tablet I’ve seen ; Wi-Fi only, yet it teases you with a slot for a 3G dongle which will only work in Europe

At just under $300, the Archos G9 is a fine slate. It comes packed with all the essentials, and has a battery life that should last around as long as you do. But if you’re looking for a high-quality tablet, this probably isn’t it. I’d recommend it as a...

Archos announced its two upcoming ninth-generation tablets last week in Paris and the whole world was mesmerized by the Archos 80 G9 and the Archos 101 G9 prices, which are practically ultra-cheap.... The more precise term would be “value for money.”
